Remember

I Cor 11.17-34 We are encouraged to remember all sorts of things from national holidays to personal events to, well, you fill in the blanks.  They are posted on our paper calendars, can be added to our calendar in our smart phone or computer calendar with reminder notices of those events.  When it comes to those special days we are asked to remember, how much of the day or the event to we really remember or are we just grateful that we day off work or school if it’s nationally recognized?  Have they lost their significance?  In our passage today, Paul is telling us about an event that we are to remember that is of significance to the believer.  His words challenge us to never lose the significance as we gather around the Lord’s Table.  It’s a call to remember.

Be Challenged

Acts 28.17-31 The Apostle Paul leaves us with a challenge.  As he has done throughout his years of ministry, so ahe does in Rome.  Kept by the power of God’s promise to reach Rome he sets out to proclaim the gospel and does so for two years while awaiting his trial.  At the anniversary celebration of this church, how fitting to conclude with a challenge from Paul to take his example and endeavor to reach others with the gospel, ever remembering the promise of Jesus before His ascension that His Spirit would be our power to witness.  The challenge is to take the baton, carry it and pass it on to the next generation so that the gospel is unashamedly proclaimed until Christ returns.

Be Community

Acts 28.11-16 Competition or community, which would you prefer?  In the Biblical scheme of things considering Paul’s remarks that in Christ we are one body, I suspect that competition is out and community is in.  Paul’s travels culminating in his arrival at Rome demonstrate a group of believer’s who made every endeavor to be a community.  They were inviting.  They were involved.  They were inspiring.  Can that be said of us?

Be Caring

Acts 28.1-10 – In a culture that is plagued with selfishness, the refreshing winds of kindness through acts of caring are welcome.  This passage highlights several characteristics of caring that we should both ponder and practice.  Opportunities abound to demonstrate Christ-like care, the only thing that lacks is our willingness.  Give some thought to this passage and then go out and care.

Be Connected

Acts 27.27-44 – Life at times is like a puzzle.  Some events can be as challenging as the world’s largest puzzle, which has 24,000 pieces.  What holds it all together, what keeps it connected are the interlocking pieces that fit perfectly resulting in a beautiful picture.  When we are rightly connected to God, no matter how severe the storms may be in our life, we are able to stand.  How do we stay connected to God during such times?  We need to be connected to God through His Son.  We need to be connected to God through His Spirit.  We need to be connected to God through His Sword.

Be Comforted

Acts 27.1-26 A relentless and violent storm brewed up on the Mediterranean Sea causing even the most seasoned of sailors to lose hope.  Yet in the midst of the storm there was one who stood undaunted in faith as he trusted God to keep His promise “as you have testified of Me in Jerusalem so you will testify of Me in Rome.”  The storms could not shake the faith of Paul.  Desperate men despair, faithful men fear not.  How are you handling life’s storms?  Do you have fear or faith?
